Resolution or Intention

Updated: Jan 6, 2019

I have never been a fan of making new year resolutions, mainly because when I have made them I never stick to them. However throughout the year I will set intentions for change as I deem it necessary.

The difference between a resolution and an intention is:

Resolution: A firm decision to do or not do something,

Intention: Intention is a mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action or actions in the future. Intention involves mental activities such as planning and forethought.

Here it is the 'planning and forethought' that are the keywords, change won't happen these actions also being put into place.

So, I woke up on January 1st and felt that I needed to set some intentions, after a roller coaster year in which I completed my EAP training, had a failed plan to move house, and lost my dear mum (more on that in another post).

Along with these intentions is also a list of things I am grateful for in 2018, as despite the sorrows there were some lovely high points and learnings, and it's important to acknowledge these before moving forward into the plans for this year.

So, the gratitude list is written, the intention list is written, although this is fluid and flexible and can be tweaked at any time, and the plans are set in motion, I can't wait to see what evolves :)
